PAO, MDD? Everything about the expiration dates of our cosmetics
PAO, MDD, expiration date? Are you wondering about the sustainability of our cosmetics? Instructions for use are here!
MDD, what does it mean?
In cosmetics, we speak of an expiration date or even a minimum durability date (MDD), the date until which the product, stored in appropriate conditions, continues to fulfill its initial function. This date is announced by the words “Use preferably before the end of…” or by an hourglass logo, followed either by the date itself; or the indication of the place on the labeling where it appears thanks to this little hourglass logo.
Are these details obligatory?
This MDD is not mandatory when the durability of a cosmetic product exceeds 30 months. This product then bears the indication of the duration during which the product is safe after opening and can be used without harm to the consumer (period after opening, PAO). This information is indicated by a symbol representing an open jar of cream, followed by the duration of use (expressed in months and/or years). This is the case for many cosmetic products, and it is the case for all our Avril cosmetic products as well.
You will observe that many cosmetic products on the market only carry a PAO. We have chosen to affix a DDM in addition to the PAO on our products to guarantee more transparency for the consumer and maximum freshness of our products.
And the BBD?
The terms BBD (best before date) are reserved for food products.
